Making sure that
things are sticking around
When surgical drape
materials were not adhering to a patient’s skin, this caused the
manufacturer to believe that the materials being used were not the correct
combination for the application. The adhesive was not bonding well to
the non-woven drape. To further aggravate the situation, the pressure
sensitive adhesive (PSA) was being removed from the drape when the release
liner was taken off.
When M&C conducted
a Total Process Analysis (TPA), it was confirmed that the PSA being used
for the application was incorrect. M&C’s Material Selection
Analysis Team determined the proper combination of substrate and adhesive
required to prevent field failures. The team also developed a more effective
design for the application.
